Over a two-year time span, South African Claudine Van Wyk lost three beloved family members in a series of gruesome farm attacks in the troubled African nation.
Her story is hardly unique.
The horrendous violence that has become so common in South Africa is a terror that even cross-border violence or irrational violence against a religious minority doesn’t approach.
And the attacks are viewed by many experts as the signs of genocide, warning top government officials are inciting, if not participating directly in it.
The trigger for the latest murder and mayhem against whites is the land owned by descendants of Europeans who arrived generations ago and built up what is now becoming known as “Rainbow Nation.”
Among those ramping up the hatred is South African President Jacob Zuma, who sings a song about genocide and is now seeking to expropriate white-owned farms without even providing compensation.

More than a few experts and political leaders have suggested there is a nexus between many of the barbaric farm murders and the political efforts to confiscate the farms and properties of white South Africans.
The hatred fomented by political leaders often turns bloody and brutal beyond belief.
Van Wyk’s tragedy
Van Wyk’s aunt and uncle, Johan and Gloudien Van Rensburg, were brutally murdered on their farm in northern Limpopo in June 2012.
The husband, 77 at the time, died from gunshot wounds.

Increase in Free State farm attacks – January until June 2017
The VKB/FSA Safety Desk would like to share the following statistical analysis in terms of farm attacks in the Free State, from January until 26 June 2017:
In the Northern Free State 12 farm attacks took place, followed by the Eastern Free State with 12 and 6 in the Southern Free State. A total of 30 attacks were recorded in the province since 1 January 2017. In the same period in 2016, 25 attacks were recorded. An increase can thus be seen from January until 26 June 2017, although the amount of attacks in May 2017 decreased in comparison to May 2016;
In 18 of the 30 incidents the motive is suspected to be armed robbery/house robbery – other serious violent crimes include 3 cases of murder (2 incidents), 8 cases of attempted murder, 1 of attempted rape, 4 of assault with the motive of causing serious bodily harm and 1 case or arson;
A total of 16 of the 30 attacks were on farmers, 3 on upcoming farmers and 2 during which producers and workers were targeted, with workers who were the victims in the other 14 cases;
Most of the incidents took place on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, with 5 incidents on each of these days – while 16 of the 30 incidents that took place from Thursdays until Sundays (53,33%);
17 of the 30 (56,6%) attacks occurred during the day (06:00 to 18:00) followed by 7 cases in the evening until midnight;
In 12 of the 30 cases 2 to 3 victims were attacked at one time, with individuals targeted in the other cases:
13 of the victims were older than 50 years of age, and 21 were under the age of 50, with 4 victim’s ages currently unknown. In 5 incidents children were attacked;
In 20 of the attacks 3 to 4 attackers were involved (66,67%), with 6 incidents were 2 attackers were involved. In 1 incident 8 to 10 attackers were involved.
Fire arms were used in 19 of the 30 attacks (63.33%), in 7 other instruments were used like knives, knobkerries, sharp objects, metal pipers. In 4 of the incidents the instruments used has not yet been identified;
Vehicles, cell phones, cash, and fire arms are the items most sought after in attacks/house robberies on farms/small holdings.
In 13 of the incidents vehicles were used to transport the attacks to and from the scene;
In 13 cases arrests were made by means of good cooperation between the Police and farming communities;

South Africa’s white population is shrinking
South Africa’s white population is shrinking, down more than 70,000 over the past five years, according to new data by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA).
The country has added 800,000 people to its population over the past year, and has grown by more than 15 million people since 1996, StatsSA said.
The stats body unveiled its community survey for 2016 showing that the country’s population has reached 55.7 million in 2016 – up from 40.6 million in 1996. 2001 – 44.8 million 2011 – 51.8 million 2015 – 54.9 million 2016 – 55.7 million Breaking down the population by racial segments, the data showed that the country’s white population has declined from 4 586 838 in 2011, to 4 516 691 in 2016 – a loss of 70,147 people (-1.5%).
The black population has increased by nearly four million over the same period – from 41 000 938, to 44 891 603 people (+9.5%).
The coloured population has increased to 4 869 526 from 4 615 401 people (+5.5%), while the Indian/Asian population has grown to 1 375 834, from 1 286 930 people in 2011 (+6.9%).

In the 0-4 age group, StatsSA recorded a white population of 268,267 in 2011, dropping to 253,035 in 2016.
In the 20-24 age group, and 25-29 category, the numbers show a decline from 313,616 and 336,355, to 303,257, and 287,792 people respectively.
A similar pattern emerges in the 30’s age group – 318,329 whites between the ages of 30-34 in 2011, down to 279,475, while in the 35-39 group, the population has declined to 278,789, from 342,316, in 2011.
Gauteng remains the most populous province in the country with 13.4 million people, up from 13.2 million in 2015, and from 12.3 million in 2011.
